National Merit Scholarship
Join us in congratulating Senior Edgar Batista on earning/winning the National Merit Scholarship. Winners are chosen on the basis of their abilities, skills, and accomplishments—without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference. Scholarship recipients are the candidates judged to have the greatest potential for success in rigorous college studies and beyond. The selection process involves evaluating substantial amounts of information about Finalists obtained from both students and their high schools. Included are the Finalist’s academic record (course load and difficulty level, depth and breadth of subjects studied, and grades earned); PSAT/NMSQT® scores; the student’s essay; demonstrated leadership and contributions to school and community activities; and the school official’s written recommendation and characterization of the Finalist. - Nationalmerit.org. We are very proud of Edgar! |
UM Girls are for STEM Initiative
Join us in congratulating the following students on being admitted into the UM Girls are for STEM Initiative: Catalina Bunge Nicolette Caffrey Sara Camps-Gonzalez Andrea Cao Gina Cucurullo Isabel Dileepthomas Paulina Elena Milena Esteban Lola Gallo Argerich Sofia Guananja Catalina Guillamont Cecilia Motta Nicole Patino Sarah Roa Sophia Roa Sara Ruiz-Meza Agustina Valverde Sofia Velinov Agustina Zamora The University of Miami Girls are for STEM is an initiative of the Advancing Women in Mathematics Across America to address the leaking pipeline in high school. Around age 16, young women talented in mathematics tend to drop out of the advanced math track, for completely the wrong reasons. By doing so, they are blocking many future career options in STEM-related occupations. WIMSA partners with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and with private high schools in the county, to provide advanced math classes for university credit to female high school students, juniors, and seniors. The courses are specially designed for these talented young high school students. They are different from courses offered in the high schools and are aimed to develop conceptual mathematical thinking as well as analytic skills. Cohorts of students in each of the units of the program are kept small, to ensure personalized attention and individual mentorship. This initiative will encourage female high school students to pursue higher education in STEM fields, including mathematics. - University of Miami Please congratulate and encourage these amazing students. |

MAST Boys and Girls Team Win GMAC Championship
Both our boys and girls teams are the GMAC Champions!! As long as I have been following this team, I do not recall a year when both the girls and boys teams won. The Miami Herald wrote a wonderful piece about the young kids on both teams after winning the GMAC Titles. Our girls team are this year's District Champions. Defeating Ransom in a tight one goal game last week. Unfortunately, our girls were knocked out of the playoffs yesterday afternoon and their amazing season comes to an end in the Regional Semifinal. Our boys however, have advanced to the FHSAA regional championship where they will face Gulliver Prep tomorrow evening at Belen Jesuit. The winner of that game will advance to the 2024 FHSAA State Championship. |
