Mecha Makos Robotics allows students to participate in a variety of engineering and technology related competitions. The diverse range of activities available include but are not limited to designing and constructing robots. The club is divided into two primary programs: VEX and MATE. The VEX program focuses on robotics competitions that emphasize innovation in design, programming, and control systems. Students involved in VEX learn skills such as CAD (computer-aided design), coding, and troubleshooting, preparing them for challenges in areas like autonomous navigation and game strategy. The MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) program, on the other hand, offers students the opportunity to participate in underwater robotics competitions. This program emphasizes marine engineering and technology, where students design, build, and operate remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to complete various tasks related to underwater exploration and industry challenges.
