Did you know that former MAST teacher Wafa Kahlil wrote the high school text book on Solar Energy power and she used to host a solar energy celebration every year at MAST?
Did you know that local student activist, Delaney Reynolds, addressed over a 1,000 kids at MAST this January to talk about sea level rise in Miami? This summer, she addressed the United Nations too. Check out her youtube video at MAST below. Congratulations to our MAST students and Eclipse Club who are being featured in the Center for Green Schools Advocacy Toolkit for their tweet to the Superintendent in May 2018. They let him know that they won first place in the Pepsi Recycle Rally for the best redesigned recycling plan and they collected 1,000s of bottles and cans all year. However, the recycling company doesn't recycle these items. The Superintendent pledged to revamp the recycling program and roll out an awareness and educational campaign. Well done kids! Stay tuned for a new recycling vendor...hopefully coming soon. During this same twitter townhall, the Superintendent acknowledged that the rebate program will resume this year. Now, MAST will get back $.75 for every energy dollar saved. Additionally, MAST will pilot a program on waste diversion. The District has agreed to reimburse MAST on any savings related to reducing our dumpster size by reducing dumpster waste. Our kids are being the change they want to see in the world...amazing! |
