The MAST PTSA Green Champions Program hosts monthly meetings and workdays to maintain various projects around campus that align with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Green Schools program, including organic gardens, recycling, composting, LED lighting retrofits, and coastal clean-ups. Students earn community service hours, leadership skills, and stewardship habits.
Our students have been featured on the BBC, hosted in Washington D.C. at the Smithsonian Institute, and received multiple awards from school board members and members of Congress for their incredible advocacy. Since 2017, MAST Academy has received the county and Florida PTA Friends of the Environment Award. In 2019, MAST was the only school in Florida to become a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School. In 2021, our students successfully advocated for a 100% Clean Energy Commitment by MDCPS: the first resolution of its kind in the Southeast. Students from all grade levels and parents who contribute community service hours towards our MAST Go Green efforts will be recognized as bronze, silver, or gold champions (25, 50, or 75 hours) in a May 2022 ceremony. Remember, all green champions, including students and parents, must be members of the PTSA to receive recognition. |
